“Do you hear that?”
Why was she talking to him? He was the enemy.
“Hear what?” He frowned, looking at her suspiciously.
Before she could respond, she heard it again. A low, angry meow. “That’s Tricia’s cat. He’s in the basement.”
Puzzled, she walked to the basement door. “Tricia never lets him down there. I’ll bet he snuck through when she opened it. She’ll be upset if she finds out he got stuck there.”
She opened the door, and the cat dashed into the kitchen, his fur sticking straight up and his tail puffed twice its normal size with anger. Or fear.
“What’s wrong, Khan?” She reached out her hand to pet the large gray tiger-striped cat. He hissed and backed away, a low growl coming from deep in his throat. “This is not normal behavior. Khan is the friendliest cat I’ve ever seen.”
Isaiah moved to her side.
She chose to ignore him. Moving to close the door, she frowned. “Something’s at the bottom of the stairs.”
He reached out and flipped on the light.
Addie took one look at the body at the bottom of the stairs in a pool of blood, and everything went black.
About the Author
Dana R. Lynn is an award-winning author of romantic suspense and Amish romance who believes in the power of God to touch people through stories. Although she grew up in Illinois, she met her husband at a wedding in Pennsylvania and told her parents she had met her future husband. Nineteen months later, they were married. Today, they live in rural Pennsylvania and are entering the world of empty nesters. She is a teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing by day and writes stories of romance and danger at night.
