My book for today is: Pretty Polly by Abby Davies
Publication Date: February 1, 2024

A little madness this way comes…
Experienced psychologist Jessie is treating a troubled teenager called Polly who has cried out for help in her own blood.
When she digs deeper into the girl’s life, someone launches a series of personal, violent attacks, scaring Jessie so badly that she no longer feels safe in her own home.
Then three bodies are discovered.
There is a monster targeting Jessieand a serial killer on the loose.
No one is safe.

First Sentence:
Tension vibrates in the air like a poised quill, the future yet to be written. Outside my office, the sky is papery and dull; as lifeless as the teenage girl opposite me.

Stumped, I sip the tepid remains of my cappuccino and stare unseeingly at the window. I feel empty, drained. Lost and helpless. I remind myself that within a week, cameras will be set up around my home. I wonder how to explain it all to James and Michael when they come back; Michael will be home in two weeks’ time for the Christmas holidays. James won’t return from Thailand for a while yet, but I need to work out a story. I can’t tell them the truth; that I suspect the son of the man I had an affair with wants to hurt me. As far as the boys know, Greg and I divorced because we’d grown apart. I can’t destroy that lie now by telling them the truth
about this. Greg would never forgive me. He made me promise not to tell the boys what I’d done. Said he didn’t want them to be any more traumatised than they already would be, given that their parents were going their separate ways.
