I didn’t hear what he said. I was standing there, holding Carol’s hand, while sucking my thumb like I had when I was a baby. “Let’s get you inside. Want some hot cocoa?” Carol asked. I nodded. But I didn’t say anything. I couldn’t tell her I’d done something bad. She’d never want me around then either.
