First Sentence:
“Can you make copies yourself?” I turned to see an elfin man, no taller than my five-five, dark-haired though he had to be well past seventy, his skin weathered from time spent in sunnier climes than northwest Montana. “Oh, but you’d still have to wait in line to pay,” he continued, eyebrows creasing in concern as he surveyed the crowded shipping depot.

“I’ve been in touch with the volunteers’ guild,” Anne was saying. “You’ll have plenty of help when you get home. The bank president told me they’ll keep paying you, even though you won’t be able to work for a while, and I’m sure your other clients will do the same.”
