My book for today is My Lost Sister by Eleonor Samuel
Publication Date: August 27, 2024

They say Leonie got into a man’s car. She was never seen again. It was the day before her fifteenth birthday.
But what if she was never taken? What if the truth is right here, all along, in the house where we grew up. The house I’ve come back to, trying to piece the past together.
A notification flashes on my phone. Photos on social media. I stare, chilled, at old pictures of my childhood home. Our front door, the gardens outside the window where I sit now. They’re #leonieshouse.
A shiver of unease runs down my spine.
Who knows?
What do they know?
I keep saying that I don’t remember.
But I do.

First Sentence:
Prologue
Someone is screaming. Screaming and screaming. Over and over again. I want to tell them to stop, because someone will hear, someone will come. I clamp my hands over my ears. She isn’t making a sound, even though she’s still awake — her eyes are open; the black circles in the middle are so wide that you can hardly see the green.

“My clothes were in the dryer?” I don’t quite look at him.
I can sense him hesitate. “Yeah.”
I can’t reply. I nod, instead. He’s frowning.
“Rosy?”
“Nothing.” I curl my fingernails into the leather seat. I’m not crazy.
“Have you got what you need?”
I let out my breath. “Yeah.”
“Your father called. He got an alert when the alarms went off.”
“Oh.” I pull out my phone. Four missed calls. I flick it to airplane mode and shove it back into my pocket. “What did he say? Did he—”
“He wanted me to check you’d sorted out accommodation for tonight. And he said to make sure you left me the key when you go back to London tomorrow.”
Today’s Question Is: – September is Library Card Sign-Up Month. What role have libraries played in your reading journey? Do you have any recommendations for books or fond recollections involving libraries? (submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)
A: Since I am a retired librarian, the library played a very big part in my life. I remember my very first visit to the library when I was young. We couldn’t afford to purchase books, so my mom took me to the library. Back then, you could only sign out three books at a time. But I read so fast that we were going back three times a week, sometimes more. As I got older, I went by myself since we lived in town, and I would be in that library until it closed. Thus, when I got older, I chose to be in a library as my career.
