Six months ago, my husband tried to kill me.
Now, my sons and I are living in an old Victorian house passed down to me by my uncle. The house may be big, but the town is small... it's safe, which is something I haven't felt in a very long time. And best of all, it's very far away from my ex.
As soon as we move in, however, I discover that this house has an eerie reputation. Rumor has it my uncle was a mysterious man accused of atrocious things, which is drawing a lot of unwanted attention our way.
And the last thing we need is attention; we need to stay invisible if we want to stay alive.
But how can we remain invisible when things keep happening in this house? Strange things. Horrific things that have the whole town talking. We were supposed to be safe here, but it's becoming glaringly apparent to me that we're in real danger.
Then I remind myself: I'm a mother.
And a mother will do anything to protect her children.
My Thoughts
I recently enjoyed reading the exciting novel, “Beneath These Walls,” I must admit it kept me sitting on the edge throughout and leaving aside the undeniably high entertainment value of this five-star story, which is so admirably brought to life by Shade Owens.
This is the story of a daring mother who finds peace in an old Victorian house left by her uncle after surviving bad times. The author depicts a small, peaceful town where the protagonist and her sons run away to escape from the horrors that happened to them. The setting adopts the character, adding a creepy and suspenseful air that continues.
What makes this novel unique indeed is the smoothly combined style with mystery, horror, and unfailing mother’s love. As the main character adjusts to her new abode, she gets wind of unsettling rumors about her uncle and house. Undesired attention and bizarre incidents start riddling their lives, threatening the safety they desperately attempted to seek.
The author deftly intertwines fear of impending danger and the protagonist’s determination to save her children. The mother’s character is quite inspiring in terms of the emotional depth and resilience depicted. It is almost impossible not to support her as she faces the unexplained horrors that follow within the walls of a house.
The story flows beautifully, and each chapter ends, leaving readers craving to know more. The plot is full of twists and turns, throwing the readers in suspense until the very end. The author can build her plot in an atmosphere of suspense, tension, and fear that would send shivers along your spine.
This novel amazed me because the author could write on such sensitive topics while telling a thrilling story. Exploring domestic violence and the protagonist’s path to empowerment adds depth and realism. It reminds us of great power and resistance towards despair.
In conclusion, “Beneath These Walls” is for the fans of psychological thrillers and stories about persistent courage. It is an unforgettable story that will haunt your mind even after finishing the last page of this great book. This book is a tribute to the strength of motherly love and how far one will go for her children. I genuinely recommend it to anyone looking for an exciting and meaningful read.
