In the new Vintage Kitchen Mystery from the author of A Calculated Whisk, Jaymie’s not sure who to believe when every suspect’s alibi has as many holes as a sieve . . .
Vintage cookware collector Jaymie Müller is stunned when an irate woman accuses her pharmacist friend Val of tampering with her prescription. When more unfounded accusations follow, it seems clear the woman has a personal grudge against Val. But before they can figure out why, Jaymie and Val stumble upon the woman’s dead body on the steps of Val’s pharmacy. Given her altercations with the woman and the location of the body, the police naturally suspect Val.
Jaymie has heard rumors that the victim had become forgetful and erratic, but could that explain her death? And why was Val being framed as her murderer? Determined to find the clues that connect the woman’s strange behavior to her death, Jaymie begins questioning the people in her life—and soon suspects that the culprit is among them. But she’ll have to be careful about who she confronts, because while solving murders is hard work, there’s a killer on the loose who finds committing them all too easy . . .

Why I Love Vintage!
By: Victoria Hamilton
If you don’t know me, Hi, I’m Victoria Hamilton, and I write murder mysteries. I feel I should be standing as I say that, but it’s not a confession, it’s a declaration.
My first mystery series (still writing it, 11 books in!) centers on vintage kitchen stuff, and there’s a reason for that. Vintage Kitchen Mysteries, starring Jaymie Leighton, a vintage-kitchen-loving woman in small town Michigan, is a lovely way for me to research the things that I adore: old Pyrex, vintage kitchen tools, old cookbooks, and recipes from a bygone era. I have an excuse for collecting it even, as ‘inspiration’!
My main character, Jaymie, is a lot younger than I am. She came to her love of vintage through her grandmother – her father’s mother – who now resides in a retirement residence in Canada, but lived with them in the house in Queensville while Jaymie was a child. Her fondest memories are of standing on a stool in the kitchen while her grandmother baked, letting little Jaymie crack eggs, sift flour and add sugar to recipes.
Now, many years later, Jaymie is a collector of what she calls vintage kitchenalia: Pyrex, vintage kitchen tools, old linens, and vintage cookbooks. Also… kitchen furniture! Her pursuit of an antique Hoosier cabinet is what starts the series.
So why do I love vintage kitchen stuff so much? Is it nostalgia? Maybe.
But I do think I understand a part of it: first off, I love how old stuff looks. It’s almost always MUCH better quality than what you can get today, ofttimes more functional, and it will last.
But also… there’s the thrill of the hunt!
I have made wonderful finds at: thrift stores, garage sales, community sales, charity sales, flea markets, antique markets, junk stores and giveaway sites. I have rescued things from the trash on garbage night. I’ve found things clearing out apartments when I worked as a superintendent. Friends have given or traded me stuff. I collected a whole set of Primary Colors Pyrex bowls for a fraction of what a complete set would cost normally, just by buying individual pieces at thrift stores.
And I love it all!
But the most important source? I kept some of my Mom’s vintage kitchen stuff, from Pyrex refrigerator dishes, to old dishes and silver. And cookbooks! I still have one of the first Christmas gifts my Mom gave me after I moved away from home, a cookbook by a local cooking columnist.
Maybe it’s no surprise that Jaymie Leighton Müller ended up being a food columnist with her Vintage Eats column in her local newspaper, and an aspiring cookbook author.
So, I’m deeply interested… do you love vintage kitchen stuff? Do you have any you use all the time? Where did you get it from??
